Sri Sankadamochan Maruti Madam is a historic Anjaneya temple situated close to Technopark, approximately 2.6 kilometers from the center of Kazhakootam in the Thiruvananthapuram district.
Sankadamochan is a term in Hindi that translates to the remover of pain, suffering, and sorrow. This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, featuring an idol depicted in a standing posture. Its exquisite architectural design captures the attention of all who pass by, making it visible from a considerable distance.
Lord Hanuman, also referred to as Anjaneyan, Bajrangabali, and Marutinandan, is associated with a legendary tale in which he leapt into the sky, mistaking the sun for a red fruit. In response, Indra struck Hanuman with his diamond weapon, resulting in a wound on his chin, which led to his name, Hanuman. Additionally, he is known as Anjaneyan, signifying his identity as the son of Anjana, and Maruti.
Sri Sankatmochan Marutimath holds significant importance in Hindu tradition, particularly regarding the veneration of Hanuman, who is regarded as one of the Saptachiramjivas, or immortals. Texts such as the Shiva Purana and Devi Bhagavatam assert that Hanuman is an incarnation of Lord Shiva himself. The temple's most notable celebration occurs during Hanumad Jayanti, which takes place in April. Devotees seek the blessings of Hanuman Swamy promptly. Engaging in Sri Rama Bhajan is considered the most effective means of receiving Hanumad's blessings. It is believed that offering a betel garland to Anjaneyan and performing prayers can alleviate misfortunes and lead to significant achievements. The practice of using betel garlands in worshiping Hanuman Swami is rooted in this belief. Thursdays and Saturdays are deemed particularly auspicious for visiting the Hanuman temple.

ആഞ്ജനേയൻ, ബജ്രംഗബലി, മാരുതി, നന്ദൻ തുടങ്ങിയ വിവിധ പേരുകളിൽ ഈ ദൈവത്തെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഹനുമാൻ, സൂര്യനെ ചുവന്ന പഴം ആണെന്ന് കരുതിയപ്പോൾ, ആകാശത്തിലേക്ക് കുതിച്ചുവന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഐതിഹ്യം പ്രകാരം, ഇന്ദ്രൻ വജ്രായുധം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഹനുമാന്റെ മേൽ ആക്രമണം നടത്തുകയും, അതിനാൽ ഹനുമാന്റെ താടിയിൽ മുറിവേറ്റതായും പറയുന്നു.
ശിവൻ ഹനുമാനായി അവതരിച്ചതെന്ന് ശിവപുരാണവും ദേവീഭാഗവതവും വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നു. മഹാബലവാനായ വായൂപുത്രനാണ് ഹനുമാൻ എന്ന വിശ്വാസം നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. ശ്രീരാമസ്വാമിയുടെ പരമഭക്തനും ആശ്രിതനുമായ ഹനുമാൻ, രാമനാമം ഉച്ചരിക്കുന്നിടത്ത് എല്ലായിടത്തും പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുമെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ദിവസം ഏപ്രിൽ (മേടം) മാസത്തിലെ ഹനുമദ് ജയന്തിയാണ്, ഇത് ചൈത്ര മാസത്തിലെ പൗർണമിയോടു കൂടി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഹനുമാൻ സ്വാമി ക്ഷിപ്രപ്രസാദിയാണ്. ഹനുമദ് പ്രീതിക്കായി ശ്രീരാമഭജനമെന്നത് ഉത്തമമായ ഒരു പ്രാർത്ഥനയാണ്. ആഞ്ജനേയന് വെറ്റിലമാല സമർപ്പിച്ച് പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചാൽ ദോഷങ്ങളുടെ കാഠിന്യം കുറയുകയും ഉന്നത വിജയം നേടാൻ സാധിക്കുമെന്നും വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
