Vanchiyoor Sri Athiyaramadham Devi Temple is situated in Vanchiyoor village within the Thiruvananthapuram district, close to Neyyattinkara. This temple was subsequently managed by the historic Tantri family, known as the Attiyamadham family.
There exists a significant link between this temple and the Manakkad Sri Dharmasastha Temple, with the rituals associated with the temple festival continuing uninterrupted. Both the Manakkad Dharmasastha Temple and the Attukal Devi Temple celebrate their festivals concurrently over a span of nine days. During this period, the Lord experiences profound sorrow, leading Attukal Devi to prevent him from seeing his distressed brother for the entire duration. On the ninth day, millions of devotees present Pongala to the Goddess, who is greatly pleased by this display of devotion.
The festival is then officially inaugurated. In response to his sister's joyful sight, the Lord ascends and arrives at the Athiyaramadham temple in a serene manner to alleviate his weariness, a process referred to as pooja. It is believed that following this ceremony, Sasthav mounted an elephant, traversed the land, returned to the Arati temple at Padmathirthakulam, raised the flag, and concluded that year's festival. These traditions persist to this day. The Thrikkoriyeri Vettai, Elephant Rise, Pongala, Karthika Lantern, daily Annadanam, various artistic performances, and the Thrikkarthika Mahotsavam, which spans seven days, are celebrated with great splendor at the Attiyaramatham Devi Temple.
ശ്രീ അത്തിയറമഠം ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം
തിരുവനന്തപുരം ജില്ലയിൽ നെയ്യാറ്റിൻകരയ്ക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള വഞ്ചിയൂർ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന വഞ്ചിയൂർ ശ്രീ അത്തിയറമഠം ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം, രാജ്യത്തെ ഏറ്റവും പഴക്കമുള്ളതും പ്രശസ്തവുമായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പിന്നീട് പുരാതന തന്ത്രി കുടുംബമായ അത്തിയമഠം കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലായിരുന്നു. മണക്കാട് ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും ആറ്റുകാൽ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും ഒരേ സമയം ഒമ്പത് ദിവസങ്ങളോളം ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ നടക്കുന്നു. ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ ഭഗവാൻ വളരെ ദുഃഖിതനാകുന്നു, അതിനാൽ ആറ്റുകാൽ ദേവി 9 ദിവസത്തേക്ക് തൻറെ അസ്വസ്ഥനായ സഹോദരനെ കാണാൻ അനുവദിക്കുന്നില്ല.
ഒൻപതാം ദിവസം ലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തർ ദേവിക്ക് പൊങ്കാല അർപ്പിക്കുന്നു, ഇത് കണ്ട ദേവി അത്യന്തം സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നു. എല്ലാം കഴിഞ്ഞ ശേഷം ദേവി സഹോദരനെ കാണാൻ പുറപ്പെടുന്നു. സഹോദരിയുടെ ദർശനത്തിൽ പ്രസാദിച്ച ഭഗവാൻ ക്ഷീണമകറ്റാൻ യാതൊരു ബഹളവുമില്ലാതെ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് അത്തിയറമഠം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു, ഇതിനെ ‘പൂജ’ എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ചടങ്ങിനുശേഷം ശാസ്താവ് ആനപ്പുറത്ത് എഴുന്നള്ളിച്ച് ദേശത്തിൻറെ ചിറകിലേറി പത്മതീർഥക്കുളത്തിലെ ആരതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തി കൊടി ഉയർത്തുന്നതോടെ ആ വർഷത്തെ ഉത്സവം സമാപിച്ചെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
