Sri Kunnandan Mahaganapati Temple (ശ്രീ കുന്നാണ്ടൻ ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം) is a historic Ganesha temple located in Thiruvananthapuram, next to the Lakshmivarahamoorthy temple pool, which is the largest temple pool in Kerala. The vicinity of this temple is known as Srivaraham, which is in close proximity to the Sripadmanabhaswamy temple.
The term Srivaraham is derived from the site of the Lakshmivarahamurti temple, where Varahamurti, one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, is venerated alongside Mahalakshmi. This location is situated to the west of the Padmanabhaswamy temple.
The principal festival at Sri Kunnandan Mahaganapati Temple is Vinayaka Chaturthi, celebrated on the Chathurthi day of the month of Chingam. This event is among the most significant celebrations at the temple. On Vinayaka Chaturthi, which marks the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the temple grounds open early in the morning for pooja.
The main ritual conducted on this day is the Ashtadravyamahaganapathi homam, which utilizes one thousand and eight coconuts. The homa is performed under the guidance of the temple Thantri. The temple is adorned with vibrant decorations, including colorful and decorative lamps, as well as Kulavazha vithanam. In the evening, a procession featuring Gajaveera, carrying a Thidambu idol of Lord Ganesha, parades through the city accompanied by music. The pradakshina begins at the temple, proceeds in front of the Lakshmivarahamurti temple, circumambulates the Temple Pond, and returns to the temple. Numerous devotees travel from various regions to witness this event. Additionally, there are receptions along the route during the departure and return to the temple, with bread and Modaka being the primary offerings for the day.

തിരുവനന്തപുരം നഗരത്തിലെ കേരളത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ക്ഷേത്രക്കുളമായ ലക്ഷ്മീവരാഹമൂർത്തി ക്ഷേത്രക്കുളത്തിന് സമീപം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്തമായ ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ശ്രീ കുന്നാണ്ടൻ മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം. ശ്രീപത്മനാഭസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് അടുത്തുള്ള പ്രദേശമാണ് ശ്രീവരാഹം. മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ ദശാവതാരങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ വരാഹമൂർത്തി മഹാലക്ഷ്മിയോടൊപ്പം ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ലക്ഷ്മീവരാഹമൂർത്തിക്ഷേത്രം ഈ സ്ഥലത്താണ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്, അതിനാൽ ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് ശ്രീവരാഹം എന്ന പേര് ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പത്മനാഭസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്താണ് ഈ സ്ഥലം. ശ്രീ കുന്നാണ്ടൻ മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം, മുക്കോലയ്ക്കൽ ഭഗവതീ ക്ഷേത്രം, തുറയിൽ അന്നപൂർണ്ണേശ്വരി ദുർഗ്ഗ ഭഗവതീ ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നിവയും ഈ പ്രദേശത്താണ്.
ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ ചതുർത്ഥി ദിനം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി, ശ്രീ കുന്നാണ്ടൻ മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്. ഗണപതിഭഗവാന്റെ ജന്മദിനമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ദിനത്തിൽ, ക്ഷേത്രം രാവിലെ നേരത്തേ തുറന്ന് പൂജ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ആ ദിവസത്തെ പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങായ അഷ്ടദ്രവ്യമഹാഗണപതിഹോമത്തിന് ആയിരത്തി എട്ട് നാളികേരങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ഹോമം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ തന്ത്രിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
വർണ്ണവിളക്കുകൾ, അലങ്കാര ദീപങ്ങൾ, കുലവാഴ തോരണങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയാൽ ക്ഷേത്രം വലിയ രീതിയിൽ അലങ്കരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. സന്ധ്യയ്ക്കു, നെറ്റിപ്പട്ടം കെട്ടിയ ഗജവീരന്റെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ, വാദ്യമേളങ്ങളോടുകൂടി ഗണപതിവിഗ്രഹം നഗരപ്രദക്ഷിണത്തിന് എഴുന്നള്ളുന്നു.
