Naduthala Bhagavathy Temple Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram

The temple is consecrated to Goddess Durga, revered as Naduthala Bhagwati, the divine mother. In addition to the principal deity, the temple houses several sub-deities, including Ganesha, Murugan, Nagas, Yogeswara, Mantramurthy, Shakti Swarupa, Brahmarakshas, Bhutathan, and Maruta. The vibrant atmosphere fosters a spirit of devotion, allowing worshippers to mentally engage in significant spiritual practices, thereby achieving their objectives. The temple's history recounts that the male head of the Naduthala veedu family established the deity of Devi as the goddess of martial arts. One of the primary offerings at the temple is pori (puffed rice), prepared from rice harvested from the temple's own paddy fields. Initially, worship was directed towards a sculpted wooden seat and a deer’s horn. Subsequently, a concrete idol of Devi was installed in front of the wooden structure and was venerated. Over time, the idol suffered damage and was replaced with a new one, while the wooden seat and deer horn were incinerated. Additionally, a Ganapathi idol was positioned to the south of the main deity.

Following the replacement, a Devaprasna was conducted, revealing that the goddess, previously in the fierce form of Durga Devi, had transformed into a more serene manifestation. The Devaprasna indicated that this peaceful form of Durga Devi is exceptionally benevolent and will bestow goodness upon the people. It is believed that Devi and Lord Mahadev of Kushakodu share a marital bond. According to the guidance of Sage Kusava, the Devi travels to the Kushakodu temple on an elephant every three years. During her journey, she pauses at Kalmandapam, where she is honored with puja from Aayirvallikavu. Upon reaching the Kushakodu temple, Devi circumambulates the temple and is positioned opposite Mahadev, with lamps lit before their idols. After the evening puja, Devi departs from Kushakodu and returns to the Naduthalla temple. It is said that Mahadev sends his bodyguards to ensure her safety. Upon her return to the temple, the bodyguards return to Mahadev after partaking in a feast and singing. Once Devi enters the temple, puja is performed in her honor.

തിരുവനന്തപുരം ജില്ലയിൽ തമ്പാനൂരിൽ നിന്ന് 5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പൂജപ്പുരയിൽ, കേരളത്തിന്റെ സമ്പന്നമായ സാംസ്കാരിക പാരമ്പര്യത്തിന്റെ ഒരു ഉദാഹരണമായ ശ്രീ നടുതല ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. 500 വർഷത്തിലധികം പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിക്കാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്, അവൾക്ക് നടുതല ഭഗവതി എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.

ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയ്ക്ക് പുറമെ, ഗണേശൻ, മുരുകൻ, നാഗങ്ങൾ, യോഗീശ്വരൻ, മന്ത്രമൂർത്തി, ശക്തി സ്വരൂപൻ, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്, ഭൂതത്താൻ, മറുത എന്നിവയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉപദേവതകൾ. ഓരോ ദേവതയും ഭക്തരുടെ പ്രാർത്ഥനകൾക്ക് അനുകൂലമായ സമഭാവനകൾ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നതിനായി, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ അന്തരീക്ഷം വളരെ പ്രസന്നമാണ്. ഈ സമൃദ്ധമായ അന്തരീക്ഷം, ഭക്തരുടെ മാനസിക സമാധാനത്തിനും, അവരുടെ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച കാര്യങ്ങൾ സിദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്നതിനും സഹായിക്കുന്നു.
