Major Sree BalaSubramanya Swamy Temple is located in Kochulloor, approximately 800 meters from Ulloor Junction. It is recognized as one of the most prominent Bala Subramanya Swamy Temples in the state of Kerala.
This temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya (Lord Muruga), who is revered as the principal deity. In addition to Lord Subramanya, the temple also honors several other deities, including Lord Shiva, Lord Ganapathy, Annadu Shastha, Goddess Yakshi Amma, Naga Raja, and Brahma Rakshas. The temple hosts two major annual festivals: the Thypooya Kavadi Mahotsavam and the Meena Mahotsavam. The administration of the temple is overseen by the Travancore Devaswom Board.
The principal deity, Balasubrahmanyan, is oriented towards the east and is housed within a round-shaped sanctum. The Mukhamandapam is supported by 16 pillars made of black stone. തിരുവനന്തപുരം ജില്ലയിൽ ഉള്ളൂർ ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്നും 800 മീറ്റർ അകലെ കൊച്ചുള്ളൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന മേജർ ശ്രീ ബാലസുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ ബാല സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രധാന ദേവനായി സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ ഭഗവാനെ (മുരുകൻ) പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ശിവൻ, ഗണപതി, അന്നാട്ടു ശാസ്താവ്, യക്ഷി അമ്മ, നാഗരാജാവ്, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ് എന്നിവരാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ഉപദേവതകൾ. തൈപ്പൂയ കാവടി മഹോത്സവം, മീന മഹോത്സവം എന്നിവയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നടക്കുന്ന പ്രധാന വാർഷിക ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ. നിലവിൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭരണം തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡാണ് നടത്തുന്നത്.

നെടുമങ്ങാട് രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കീഴിൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ച ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, പുറത്തുള്ള അയ്യപ്പനാണ് മുഖ്യപ്രതിഷ്ഠ. ഒരു തവണ, രാജാവിന് ഒരു സ്വപ്നത്തിൽ ശാസ്താവ് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ട്, തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യനെ ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു.
ഇതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ, നെടുമങ്ങാട് രാജാവിന്റെ മേൽനോട്ടത്തിൽ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യനെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.
ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ ദർശനം കിഴക്കോട്ടാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു മുന്നിൽ ഒരു വലിയ കുളം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ ചുറ്റും അതിസുന്ദരമായ ദാരുശില്പങ്ങൾ അലങ്കൃതമാണ്. മീനമാസത്തിൽ ഉത്രം ആറാട്ട് എത്തുന്ന രീതിയിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവം കൊടിയേറുന്നു. തൈപ്പൂയവും, വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥിയും, മണ്ഡലക്കാലവും പ്രത്യേകതകളാണ്.
