Anantnath Swami Temple, also known as the Puliyarmala Jain Temple, is a prominent Jain temple located in Puliyarmala, about 6 kilometers from Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India.
This temple is dedicated to Lord Anantnath, the 14th Tirthankara of the Jain faith. Renowned for its serene atmosphere and architectural beauty, the temple serves as an important spiritual center for the Jain community in the region. Dedicated to Sri Ananthanatha Swami, the 14th Tirthankara, the temple holds historical and religious significance.
It is also referred to as "Tipu’s Fort," as legends suggest that Tipu Sultan once used the site to store ammunition—hence the area became known as Sultan’s Battery.
Believed to have been built in the 13th century, the temple was once a center for commercial activities. Its architecture is based on the traditional Dravidian style. A prominent feature is the large, beautifully carved granite pillar at the temple's outer entrance.
The temple’s door panels are intricately carved, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship.
The temple’s sanctum has a stupa in a pyramid shape, vividly painted and adorned with carvings, including an image of Lord Mahavir at the top. Numerous Jain symbols and idols are embedded along the small steps leading to the main shrine. Nestled on the hillock of Puliyarmala, the temple is a serene and spiritually significant site for devotees and visitors alike.
അനന്ത്നാഥ് സ്വാമി ജൈന ക്ഷേത്രം
വയനാട് ജില്ലയിലെ കൽപ്പറ്റയിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 4 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള പുലിയാർമലയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ജൈനക്ഷേത്രമാണ് അനന്തനാഥ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം,പുലിയർമല ജൈന ക്ഷേത്രം എന്ന പേരിലും ഇത് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ജൈനമതത്തിലെ പതിനാലാമത്തെ തീർത്ഥങ്കരനായ അനന്തനാഥസ്വാമിക്കാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.പതിനൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി ചരിത്രവും മതപരമായ പാരമ്പര്യവും സമ്മാനിച്ച ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, ദ്രാവിഡ ശൈലിയിലുള്ള മനോഹരമായ ശില്പകലാപ്രദർശനമായാണ്‌ മാറിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രവേശന കവാടത്തിൽ ശില്പസൗന്ദര്യത്തോടെ കയ്യെത്താത്ത വലിയ ഗ്രാനൈറ്റ് തൂണുകളും, ചെറുതും വലുതുമായ സ്തൂപങ്ങളുമുണ്ട്. പൂജാമുറികളിലേക്കുള്ള വാതിലുകൾ മനോഹരമായ കൊത്തുപണികളാൽ അലങ്കരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഐതിഹ്യം പ്രകാരം, ടിപ്പു സുൽത്താൻ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം വെടിമരുന്ന് സംഭരിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നുവെന്നും അതിനാൽ ഈ സ്ഥലം “ടിപ്പുവിൻറെ കോട്ട” എന്നും പിന്നീട് “സുൽത്താൻ ബത്തേരി” എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുകയുണ്ടായെന്നും പറയുന്നു.
പതിമൂന്നാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ പണിത ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, ആ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ വാണിജ്യപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളുടെ പ്രധാന കേന്ദ്രമായിരുന്നു.
പ്രധാന ദേവാലയത്തേക്ക് നയിക്കുന്ന ചെറിയ പടികളിലൊട്ടാകെ ജൈന മതചിഹ്നങ്ങളും ദേവതാ പ്രതിമകളും കോർത്തുകിടക്കുന്നു. വലിയ പിരമിഡ് ആകൃതിയിലുള്ള സ്തൂപത്തിൽ മഹാവീരപ്രഭുവിൻറെ പ്രതിമയും ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
വയനാടിന്റെ പൈതൃകവും സാംസ്കാരിക പുഷ്ടിയും അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന അനേകം ആരാധനാലയങ്ങൾക്കൊപ്പം, ജൈന ബസ്തികൾ, പുരാതന കല്ലമ്പലങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയും സമൃദ്ധമായ ചരിത്രം പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്നവയാണ്. ഈ സമ്പന്ന പാരമ്പര്യത്തിന്‍റെ ഭാഗമായാണ് അനന്തനാഥ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രവും വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്.
