Sree Manikavu Temple is located in Choothupara village near Meenangadi in Wayanad district of Kerala, Manikavu Temple is an ancient and revered shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.
It lies approximately 16 km from Sulthan Bathery and 19 km from Kalpetta. Recognized as one of the most visited temples in Kerala, it also stands as a prominent pilgrimage destination in Wayanad.
The presiding deity here is Lord Shiva, worshipped in the form of a Shiva Linga, which is believed to be Swayambhu (self-manifested).
A unique and sacred feature of this temple is the continuous stream of water that flows over the Shiva Linga—a symbolic representation of the legend that Lord Shiva bears the River Ganges on his head. Remarkably, the flow of water remains constant throughout the year, even during the monsoon season.
മാനികാവ് മഹാ ശിവ ക്ഷേത്രം
വയനാട് ജില്ലയിലെ മീനങ്ങാടിക്കടുത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന മാനികാവ് മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം അത്ഭുതകരമായ ദൈവികസ്ഥലമായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അയ്യായിരത്തിലധികം വർഷങ്ങളുടെ പൗരാണിക പാശ്ചാതലമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിതമായ ശിവലിംഗം സ്വയംഭൂ രൂപത്തിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടതാണെന്നു വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കുഭാഗത്തുള്ള കാടിന്റെ ആഴത്തിൽ നിന്നു ഉദ്ഭവിക്കുന്ന തേജസ്സുള്ള ഒരു ജലധാര ശിവലിംഗത്തെ നിരന്തരം അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
ഈ ജലധാര വർഷങ്ങളായി ഇടവേളയില്ലാതെ ശിവലിംഗത്തെ അമൃതവർഷമായി അനുദിനവും ചൂടാറുന്നു എന്നതാണു വിശ്വാസം.
1986-ലെ അതീവ കടുത്ത വരൾച്ചകാലത്തിലും ഈ ജലധാര മുടങ്ങാതെ തുടർന്നുവെന്നു സ്ഥാനവാസികൾ പറയുന്നു. അതുപോലെ, മഴക്കാലത്തും ജലം കുത്തൊഴുക്കുകളില്ലാതെ തിളക്കമുള്ള ശുദ്ധജലമായി ശിവലിംഗത്തിലേക്ക് പതിക്കുന്നു. അഭിഷേകത്തിനുശേഷം ഈ ജലം സമീപവാസികൾ കൃഷിക്കുമായി, മറ്റ് ആവശ്യമനുസരിച്ച് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. മഹാമുനികാവ് എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥലം കാലക്രമേണ "മാനികാവ്" എന്ന പേരിലേയ്ക്ക് പരിണമിച്ചതാണ്.
