Muneeswaran Kovil is located in Puthiyidam, Thalapuzha, in Mananthavady, Wayanad district.
Though it is often referred to as a temple, it is still under construction. This ancient shrine, revered by the tribal communities, has existed for many years. The scenic Muneeswaran Mudi in Mananthavady attracts a steady stream of tourists eager to experience the natural wonders of the region.
Surrounded by mist-covered hills, lush green valleys, and a cool, refreshing climate even at noon, the area draws both devotees and nature lovers alike.
Muneeswaran Kovil, situated atop a hill, serves as a major spiritual center for the local residents, including the tribal population.
Located at an altitude ranging from 3,300 to 3,800 meters above sea level, the region has recently seen an increase in visitors from various parts of Kerala. About 14 kilometers from Mananthavady, this destination has only recently gained popularity among pilgrims. The main access route begins from Thalapuzha 44, along the road connecting Mananthavady to Kannur.
It is during the mornings and evenings that the hills and valleys are covered in mist. At these times, strong cold winds can also be felt atop the hills. Even during the peak of the afternoon sun, the presence of these cold winds ensures that the area never feels hot, no matter how intense the summer.
The main deity of the temple is Sri Muneeswaran. Along with him, the sub-deities worshipped at the temple include Lord Ganapathi, Devi, Malakkari, Nagaraja (serpent deity), Rakshas, Muni, and Gulikan.
മുനീശ്വരൻ ക്ഷേത്രം മാനന്തവാടി
വയനാട് ജില്ലയിലെ മാനന്തവാടിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന തലപ്പുഴ പുതിയിടം എന്ന പ്രദേശത്താണ് പുരാതനമായ മുനീശ്വരൻ കോവിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. 'ക്ഷേത്രം' എന്നതുപോലെ നിർമ്മിതമായി നിർമ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ടിടമല്ല ഇത്; ഇപ്പോഴും നിർമ്മാണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ പുരോഗമിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നതും, അതേസമയം, വർഷങ്ങളായി ആദിവാസികൾ ആരാധിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന വിശുദ്ധമായ കോവിലുമാണ്.
പ്രകൃതിയുടെ അകലമറ്റ സൗന്ദര്യങ്ങൾ നിറഞ്ഞ ഈ പ്രദേശം, വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരികൾക്കും തീർത്ഥാടകര്ക്കും ആകർഷണ കേന്ദ്രമായി മാറിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്.
മഞ്ഞ് മൂടിയ മലനിരകളും താഴ്വാരങ്ങളും, തണുപ്പുള്ള ഹരിതാന്തരീക്ഷം, കൂടാതെ ഉച്ചവെയിലിലും കുളിർമ പകരുന്ന അന്തരീക്ഷം എല്ലാം ഇവിടത്തെ ആകർഷണീയത വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മലമുകളിലായാണ് മുനീശ്വരൻ കോവിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. പ്രദേശവാസികൾക്കും ആദിവാസികൾക്കും ഒരുപോലെ ആഴമായ വിശ്വാസമുള്ള പ്രധാന ആരാധനാലയമാണിത്.
മാസത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ മാത്രമാണ് ഇവിടെ പൂജകൾ നടക്കുന്നത്. സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് 3300 മുതൽ 3800 മീറ്റർ വരെ ഉയരമുള്ള ഈ മലമേഖലയിലേക്ക്, സമീപകാലത്ത് കേരളത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള സഞ്ചാരികളുടെ വരവ് വർദ്ധിച്ചുവരികയാണ്.എത്ര കഠിനമായ വേനലായാലും ഇവിടെ ചൂട് അനുഭവപ്പെടാറില്ല.
ഈ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം നിലകൊള്ളുന്നതുകൊണ്ടാണ് പ്രദേശം 'മുനീശ്വരൻ മുടി' എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടാൻ തുടങ്ങിയത്.
