Peruvaka Sree Muthappan Madappura Temple, situated in Peruvaka, Wayanad.
This temple is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Muthappan, a unique deity who embodies the divine aspects of both Thiruvappan (or Valiya Muthappan, representing Lord Vishnu) and Vellatom (or Cheriya Muthappan, representing Lord Shiva). The sacred space where Muthappan is worshipped is traditionally known as a Madappura.
Devotees flock to this temple to seek Muthappan's blessings, believing he protects his followers from negative forces and fulfills their sincere wishes. A distinctive feature of worship here is Vellattam, a ritualistic dance performed prior to the main Theyyam. This powerful invocation is believed to transform the performer into a vessel of the divine, allowing Muthappan’s spiritual presence to manifest.
The temple comes alive with devotion and festivity during Vishu, celebrated with traditional fervor. Rituals include the Vishukkani—an auspicious arrangement of items viewed first thing in the morning for a prosperous year ahead. Devotees also observe Vishu Kaineettam, the symbolic gifting of money from elders to the younger generation, and enjoy the Vishu Sadhya, a grand vegetarian feast featuring a variety of traditional Kerala dishes.
പെരുവക ശ്രീ മുത്തപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രം
വയനാട് ജില്ലയിലെ മാനന്തവാടി താലൂക്കിലെ പെരുവക ദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഒരു മുത്തപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ശ്രീ പെരുവക ശ്രീ മുത്തപ്പൻ മാടപ്പുര. മാനന്തവാടിയിൽനിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 3.2 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ, കാറിൽ ഏകദേശം 5 മിനിറ്റ് മാത്രം യാത്രചെയ്താൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം എത്തിച്ചേരാവുന്നതാണ്. വയനാട് ജില്ലയിലെ പ്രധാന മുത്തപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
കേരളത്തിൽ മുത്തപ്പനെ അനുഷ്ഠാനപരമായി വിവിധ രൂപങ്ങളിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. പൊതുവെ മുത്തപ്പനെ കുടുംബദൈവമായും (ഗുരുദൈവം) ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും വീടുകളിലും ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ പറശിനിക്കടവ് മുത്തപ്പനും, മറ്റു മുത്തപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും വിശ്വാസപരമായും ആചാരപരമായും വ്യത്യസ്തങ്ങളാണ്. മുത്തപ്പൻ രണ്ടു ദൈവിക രൂപങ്ങൾ ചേർന്ന് പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നതാണു പ്രധാന സവിശേഷത. മത്സ്യാകൃതിയിലുള്ള കിരീടം ധരിച്ച് വിഷ്ണുവിനെയും, ചന്ദ്രക്കലയുടെ ആകൃതിയിലുള്ള കിരീടം ധരിച്ച് ശിവനെയും പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നതായാണ് വിശ്വാസം. ഇവരെയാണു തിരുവപ്പൻ (വലിയ മുത്തപ്പൻ) എന്നതിലും വെള്ളാട്ടം (ചെറിയ മുത്തപ്പൻ) എന്നതിലും പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നത്.പയംകുറ്റി, വെള്ളാട്ടം, തിരുവപ്പൻ എന്നിവയാണ് ഭക്തർ പ്രധാനമായി വഴിപാടായി നടത്തുന്നത്.
