Thrissilery Jaladurga Temple in Mananthavady, Wayanad, is one among the 108 Durga temples believed to have been consecrated by Lord Parashurama.
Nestled in the serene and pure environment of the Brahmagiri hill ranges, surrounded by the cool and sacred touch of nature, the Thrissilery Mahadeva Temple is one of the most unique temples that blesses the land with divinity and grace. A sub-temple of this sacred complex is the Jaladurga Temple, which serves as a rare and powerful seat of Devi’s divine energy.
The temple is situated in the middle of water, symbolizing prosperity attained through water purity.
Gentle springs flowing from the Papanashini (a sacred stream in Thirunelli) ensure that this temple land remains ever rich in water resources.
The Thrissilery Mahadeva Temple is closely connected to the Vishnu temple in Thirunelli. According to tradition, to complete the Bali Tharpanam (ritual offerings to ancestors) performed in Thirunelli, devotees must also offer prayers at the Thrissilery temple.
Built amidst water, the shrine of Jaladurga is filled with sacred water that flows directly from the Papanashini of Thirunelli and never dries up. It is believed that this temple was consecrated by Lord Parashurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Being a sub-temple of the Thrissilery Mahadeva Temple, this Jaladurga shrine is especially sacred.
Since the deity here is worshipped in the concept of Kanyaka (divine virgin), the main offering performed is the Swayamvara Pushpanjali (a ritual for marriage blessings). It is believed that if individuals—regardless of gender—who face delays or obstacles in marriage offer Swayamvara Pushpanjali on the star day closest to their birth star, once a month for six months, their marriage will certainly be fixed during that period.

ബ്രഹ്മഗിരി മലനിരകളുടെ മനോഹരമായ താഴ്‌വരയിൽ നിലകൊള്ളുന്ന തൃശ്ശിലേരി മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം പ്രകൃതിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹവും ആത്മീയവൈഭവവും നാടിന് സമ്മാനിക്കുന്ന അതുല്യ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. ഈ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് സമീപം നിലകൊള്ളുന്ന ഒരു അപൂർവ ദേവിക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ജലദുർഗ്ഗാ ക്ഷേത്രം – അത്യുജ്വല ദേവീചൈതന്യത്തിന്റെ ശാന്തമായ ഇരിപ്പിടം.ജലശുദ്ധിയിലൂടെ ഐശ്വര്യം ലഭ്യമാക്കുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ജലത്തിന്റെ നടുവിലായാണ് നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. തിരുനെല്ലിയിലെ പാപനാശിനി മുതൽ ഒഴുകി വരുന്ന വിശുദ്ധജലമാണ് ഇവിടത്തെ തീര്ഥകുളത്തിൽ നിറയുന്നത് – ഒരു കനമായ ജലധാരയുടെ ശാശ്വത സാന്നിധ്യമായി.
വർഷം മുഴുവൻ ജലസമൃദ്ധിയുള്ള ഈ ദിവ്യസ്ഥലത്ത് ഒരിക്കലും ജലക്കുറവ് അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നില്ല.
തൃശ്ശിലേരി മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം തിരുനെല്ലി മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രവുമായി ആധാത്മികബന്ധത്തിലുണ്ട്. തിരുനെല്ലിയിൽ നടത്തുന്ന ബലിതർപ്പണം പൂർണമാകണമെങ്കിൽ അതിന് മുമ്പ് തൃശ്ശിലേരിയിലെ മഹാദേവനെ വണങ്ങി വഴിപാട് കഴിക്കേണ്ടതാണെന്ന് പുരാതനസംപ്രദായമുണ്ട്.
ഭഗവാൻ പരശുരാമനാണ് തൃശ്ശിലേരി ജലദുർഗ്ഗാ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥാപിച്ചതെന്ന വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. തൃശ്ശിലേരി മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉപക്ഷേത്രമായി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ജലദുർഗ്ഗക്ഷേത്രം കന്യകാസങ്കൽപ്പത്തിലാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്.
അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ ഇവിടെ പ്രധാനമായും നടത്തുന്ന വഴിപാടായി സ്വയംവര പുഷ്പാഞ്ജലിക്ക് വലിയ പ്രാധാന്യമുണ്ട്.
വിവാഹതടസ്സങ്ങൾ നേരിടുന്ന സ്ത്രീകളായാലും പുരുഷന്മാരായാലും അവരുടെ ജന്മനക്ഷത്രദിനത്തിൽ (അഥവാ പക്കപ്പുറന്നാൾ) മാസം ഒന്നിലൊരിക്കൽ ആറ് മാസം തുടർച്ചയായി ഈ പുഷ്പാഞ്ജലി കഴിച്ചാൽ വിവാഹം നിർബന്ധമായും സാധിക്കുമെന്ന് വലിയൊരു വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.
